'What If' Technique

Decatastrophising

'What's the worst that can happen?'. Challenging these thoughts to a 'worst case' scenario may help reduce the irrational level of anxiety and highlight that even the worst-case scenario is manageable.

Example:

  1. I'm stuck in slow moving traffic. I am already very late. - I may be late, but I will get there safely. In the meantime, I can enjoy listening to the radio/music.
